Dracut

Carolyn C. (Boyle) MacDonald, 83, Retired R.N., a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away at home on August 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving loving husband of 62 years, Angus and her sons.

Carolyn, known to her family and friends as “Casey” was born in Lowell on October 29, 1941, the daughter of Frederick and Edith (Coutu) Boyle and lived in the south Lowell area.

She graduated from Sacred Heart School and Lowell High School, where she was a proud Captain of the Girl Officer Regiment. She then received her R.N. from Catherine Laborie School of Nursing in Boston. She worked at all three Lowell hospitals throughout her career.

Carolyn was a sports mother for her three sons in the Dracut recreational leagues. She learned most of the rules for each sport while cheering for them at their games. She was also the family’s sports analyst and even had a white board to show how plays were made.

She was the family vacation planner. Having traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South America. Carolyn and Angus wintered in Florida for 15 years and made many international friends. They also summered at their family camp in Fitzwilliam, NH.

Carolyn was proud of her Irish heritage and was a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, where she was a Past President of the organization.

Carolyn and Angus moved to Dracut in 1963 and raised their three sons.

They also worked a good sized garden until it got too much to handle.

Later in life, “Gram” had a special relationship with her granddaughter, Shannon, whom she referred to as, the daughter she never was blessed with. They were best friends and loved spending time together.

In addition to her husband, Angus, Carolyn is survived by her two sons, Daniel (D.J.) and Craig MacDonald both of Dracut; her granddaughter, Shannon (MacDonald) Richardson and her husband, Kyle; her great-grandson, Luke of Worcester; her two sister-in-laws, Margaret Bennett and Janet Bernard of Florida; as well as many nieces, nephews and family friends.

She was predeceased by her son, Keith MacDonald, her sister, Patricia Shea and her brother-in-laws, Walter Bennett and Ernest Bernard.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Carolyn’s Life Celebration at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell on Friday, August 29, 2025 from 4 until 7 PM. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 30th at 10 AM at St. Francis Church, Dracut. Burial will be private.
