LOWELL - Carol N. (Bettencourt) McCusker, of Lowell, beloved wife of the late Wayne J. McCusker, died following a long term illness on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at a local nursing home with her loving family by her side. She was 61 in the end and loved by everyone.
Born in Cambridge on December 25, 1948, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Silva) Bettencourt.
Carol raised her children in Cambridge before moving to Chelsea after the passing of her husband. She was diagnosed with Dementia at the age of 50 which eventually turned into Alzheimer's Disease. Carol battled the disease for 11 years.
Carol was a fun and energetic person and always loved to spend time with her family. She sacrificed a lot for her children.
She is survived by 3 daughters and 2 sons, Wayne McCusker, Joseph McCusker, Marlene McCusker, Rosemarie (McCusker) Meggison and her husband James and Adrienne McCusker; 2 brothers and 2 sisters, John Bettencourt, Christopher Bettencourt, Maryann (Bettencourt) Hurley and Pearl (Bettencourt) Camara; 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, Kevin Papa and his son Travis Papa, Charles McCusker, Michael McCusker, Kimberly McCusker, James Meggison, Jr., Frankie Meggison and Joseph McCusker; also 19 nieces and nephews. She was the grandmother of the late Sampson McCusker and sister of the late Charles Bettencourt and Theresa (Bettencourt) Brown.
