Carl L. Metcalf, 82, a resident of Lowell for more than sixty years, died Saturday April 3, 2010 at a local healthcare facility. He was the beloved husband of the late Bernadette (Emond) Metcalf to whom he was married over fifty two years.
Born in Pensacola, FL on July 31, 1927, he was a son of the late Clarence E. James Sr. and Mary L. (Spatch) James.
Mr. Metcalf was a Merchant Marine in his teen years and a boxer in his early 20s. He was a Master Barber and had his own shop in downtown Lowell on Prescott Street for many years. He was also a former Armed Security Guard for the former St. Joseph's Hospital, retiring in 2003.
Carl was a dedicated father and devoted husband.
Survivors include a son, Gary; four daughters, Joan, Janet, Elizabeth and Carol; seven granddaughters, Christine, Melissa, Kelly, Jenny, Chyanne, Savannah and Haley; five grandsons, Scott, Jamie, Ryan, Zack and Mike; a brother Clarence E. James, Jr.; many nieces and nephews.
