Bro. Robert F. Dutil, OMI, 87, died on May 12, 2010, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence and Infirmary in Tewksbury, MA after a period of declining health. Born in Lewiston, ME, on September 9, 1922, he was the son of Amedee and Antoinette (Desjardins) Dutil. He served during WWII in the U. S. Army with the 930th Aviation Engineers in the China-Burma-India theater and received an Honorable Discharge on December 18, 1947. He married Elaine (Vail) Dutil on April 10, 1948 and they had five children. He owned and operated Selmore Store Fixtures, a cabinet-making firm, from 1956 until 1979. Elaine died on January 24, 1979.

Bro. Dutil joined the staff at the St. Paul Center in Augusta, ME in February of 1980. The Center was operated by the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. He felt a call to religious ministry and it was there that he entered the Congregation in December of 1982 at the age of 60. He professed his first vows there on December 8, 1983, as well as his perpetual vows on December 8, 1986. Within the Northern Province, he was the first Oblate to become a professed brother following marriage. He would then continue to serve on the staff at St. Paul Center until 1995 as 2nd Assistant then Treasurer. From 1995 to 2004 he was fully retired and lived in Maine with one of his daughters. In April, 2004 he joined the community at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence and Infirmary in Tewksbury, MA. He had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and, in her honor, made rosary beads which were distributed to patients in nursing homes and hospitals.

He is survived by five children, Robert and Sharon Dutil of So. Paris, ME; Janice and John Hildebran of Brownfield, ME; Daniel and Claudia Dutil of Marana, AZ; Doris Dutil of Lewiston, ME and James and Connie Dutil of Winslow, ME. He is also survived by one sister, Elaine and Norman Davis of Auburn, ME as well as many nieces nephews and grandchildren. He was predeceased by one step-brother, Armand Dutil of Lewiston, ME and 2 step-sisters, Armande Moreau of Livermore Falls, ME and Donatiene Dutil of Lewiston, ME.
