Bernard F. "Barney" Johnston, 61, a resident of the Centralville section of Lowell, died Thursday, July 30, 2015, at his home following a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Cynthia M. (Christman) Johnston, with whom he was married for 39 years.
Born in Lowell on January 27, 1954, he was a son of the late Bernard L. and Patricia (Carney) Johnston.
A welder by trade, he had been employed by Mill Metals and Johnston Rails. He had also been employed as a tractor trailer driver.
Mr. Johnston was an avid Harley enthusiast, who loved his hot rods and bikes almost as much as his family!
Barney enjoyed his classic car projects in the shed with his sons and backyard shenanigans were never far in between.
Whether it was Dudley and Lola or Ricky and Shaun, he was always making sure everyone knew who the boss was.
In addition to his wife he leaves 9 children, Bernard F. Johnston, III and his wife Bernice of CA, Kerry Zoghopoulos, Kelley Byam and her husband Gregg, Sheila Johnston and her husband Michael Leakas, Michelle Johnston and her partner Berto Burgos, Joseph Johnston, Keith Johnston and his wife Taran, Ricky Johnston and Shaunmichael Johnston; 23 grandchildren, 3.5 great grandchildren. He also leaves dear friends, Al Jefferson, Al and Maxine Woods and Richie Perry.
