Mr. Bernard F. Casey, Sr., a lifelong resident of the Centralville section of Lowell, passed away peacefully at Lowell General Hospital on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 83 years of age.
He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia (Vengren) Casey with whom he shared 47 years of marriage, prior to her passing in February, 2001. Mr. Casey is survived by his loving children: Richard and his wife Doris of Pepperell, MA, Bernard and his wife Kathryn of Nashua, NH, Patricia Chumack and her husband Bob of Salem, MA, Kathleen Tavares and her husband, the late James of Dracut, MA, Shawn and his wife Kathleen of Nashua, NH, Colleen Benoit and her husband Walter of Merrimack, NH, Anne Alvino and her husband Andrew of Haverhill, MA, Mary Marzec and her husband John of Methuen, MA and Eileen Rondeau and her husband Bruce of Dracut, MA. Mr. Casey is also survived by his loving grandchildren: Rachel and Michaela Casey; Elizabeth and Kelly Casey; Jason and Nathan Mahoney; James and Michael Tavares; Kaleigh (Tavares) Tardiff; Frank and Katherine Casey; Casey (Benoit) Dunn; Mollie Benoit; Lillian, Hannah and Olivia Alvino; Abigail and Jillian Marzec; Erika and Norah Rondeau.
Born in Lowell on May 29, 1931, he was the beloved son of the late Richard T. and Anna E. (Golden) Casey. He is also predeceased by his only brother, Fr. Richard T. Casey, as well as his devoted son-in-law, James A. Tavares, Jr., and well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mr. Casey received his education in Lowell. Prior to his retirement in 2000, he was employed as a welder with Gilchrist Metal Fabricating Co. of Hudson, NH. During his younger days, Mr. Casey enjoyed fishing and hunting. Being an avid birdwatcher, he also enjoyed his Sunday walks along the Merrimack River.
Mr. Casey was a lifelong communicant of Saint Michael Church in Lowell.
Mr. Casey's family would like to extend a very special thank you to the nursing staff at Wingate of Belvidere for all of their care and compassion shown to our Dad. We would also like to thank the compassionate nursing staff at Lowell General Hospital who cared for him during his final days.
