Mrs. Barbara R. (Flaro) Hould, a resident of Dracut, passed away on Sunday November 22, 2009 at a local nursing facility after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of Gerard ''Jerry'' Hould for 52 years.
Born in Pittsfield on November 23, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Gordon D. and Frances P. (Kelley) Flaro.
Barbara was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School in Pittsfield, Class of 1952 and St. Luke's School of Nursing in Pittsfield, Class of 1955. She was employed as a registered nurse at St. Luke's until she moved to Dracut. She was then employed at the former St. John's Hospital (now Saints Medical Center) , Lowell from 1957 until she retired in 1996 where she was a head nurse in Pediatrics.
Mrs. Hould was a parishioner of St. Michael Church, Lowell and was actively involved in a number of community groups. She served on the Dracut Friendship Luncheon Committee for several years and was a member of the Senior Club of Dracut, the Dracut Garden Club and the St. Luke's School of Nursing Alumni Association.
Barbara was an accomplished artist who was well known in the Dracut Community. Some of her paintings can be found throughout Dracut including in the Dracut Manager's Office and the Dracut Historical Building.
Besides her love of art and painting, she enjoyed going to Cape Cod and Maine with friends and family as well as spending time at the family camp in the Berkshires.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her three children, Christopher Hould and his wife, Paula (Montminy) of Dracut, Claudia (Hould) Smith and her husband, Gavin of Venice, CA, Gregory Hould and his fiancee Lisa Balboni of Stoneham; two grandchildren, Lauren and Kyle Hould both of Dracut; a sister, Marge (Flaro) Nixon and her husband, James of Dalton; brothers-in-law, Robert Harris, Harold Savoy, Paul Hould and his wife, Jo-An; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
She was the sister of the late Marilyn (Flaro) Harris, Lenoir (Flaro) Conrow and sister-in-law of the late Ronald Conrow.
