Arthur A. Shaughnessy, beloved husband of Annette J. Bergeron, a Hudson, NH resident, formerly of the Centralville section of Lowell, died on Saturday, February 20, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was 75.
Arthur was born in Lowell on September 9, 1940, a son of the late Alfred J. and Malvina F. (Goyette) Shaughnessy.
Prior to his retirement Arthur was employed as a Transportation Driver for the US Airforce at Hanscom Air Force Base. His retirement did not end his driving career. Arthur the dependable and selfless grandfather became the driver for his grandchildren. A job he truly adored.
"Artie the one man party" nicknamed by family and friends, enjoyed a good time. The more the merrier was his motto. When not surrounded by his friends, he cherished his private time with his family.
He looked forward to fishing, watching sports, especially the New England Patriots. Artie could often be seen with a puzzle, jigsaw was his choice; but also loved crossword, or word search, as he liked to keep himself sharp. He enjoyed family gatherings and would also play trivia and card games with his family.
Artie and Annette looked forward to the trips that they would go on with their family members; especially to South Carolina, Florida and cruising in the Caribbean.
Surviving him besides his wife of 57 years are his three children and their spouses, Mark and Sharon Shaughnessy, Lisa and Kenneth Gogan, all of Nashua, Brian and Catherine Shaughnessy of Hudson, NH; six grandchildren, Richard McQuaide and his wife Kristen, Bianca, Paige, and Brett Shaughnessy, Andrew and Brenden Gogan; a sister, Beatrice Lavigne; a brother Roland Shaughnessy, both of Lowell; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Henry and George Shaughnessy.
