Arthur H. R. Masse, 97, a longtime Tyngsboro resident, and more recently of Tewksbury, died on Saturday, November 30, 2013, in Wolfeboro, NH. He was the husband of the late Estelle C. (St. Arnaud) Masse.
Born in Lowell on January 15, 1916, he was a son of the late Arthur and Marie-Louise (Levesque) Masse. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a son, Ronald P. Masse; by a sister, Evelyn Allard; and by two brothers, Roger Masse and Armand (Wally) Masse.
Mr. Masse was a veteran of the United States Army.
He made his living as a welder, at different times working for the Boston Naval Shipyard, Ford Motor Company in Somerville, Mass., the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine, and General Electric Co. in Lynn, Mass.
Mr. Masse loved the outdoors, and he and his wife were avid campers. Most recently they had enjoyed the company of their many friends at Ace Capader Acres in Berwick, Maine, where they had a mobile home.
In the years after his wife's death, he resided at Bayberry at Emerald Court assisted living facility in Tewksbury, where he revived an interest in painting and took up building birdhouses, a project that was a great source of satisfaction for him and of enjoyment for the community.
Survivors include a son, Richard Masse, and his wife, Andrea Dudley, of Wolfeboro, NH; a grandson, David Dudley Masse, and his fiancee, Ashley Lewis, of Brentwood, NH; and two sisters-in-law, Doris St. Arnaud and Paulette St. Arnaud, both of Lowell.
