Arlene A. Mickey Powers

Lowell - Arlene A. "Mickey" Powers, 78, a lifelong resident of the Christian Hill section of Lowell died Saturday May 19, 2007 at a local nursing home.
Ms. Powers was born in Lowell on February 28, 1929, the youngest daughter of the late Joseph E. and Anna (McGowan) Powers.
She attended both St. Michael School and Lowell High School.
At age 16, Ms. Powers began her long term employment as a bookbinder for the Courier Citizen Corporation and worked there until her retirement. After retiring, Ms. Powers provided day care for children in her neighborhood and was known by all her charges as "Nanny." Ms. Powers especially loved children and always referred to her nieces and nephews: Randy, Bobby, Jo-Ann, Sharon and Nancy as "my kids" and was very involved in their lives. Her other love was dogs. Ms. Powers always made sure to have several sharing her life and did in fact "adopt" a number of dogs providing them with a loving and caring environment.
She was a communicant of St. Michael Church for over sixty years and a member of the parish Holy Rosary Sodality.
In addition to her beloved "kids," survivors include several nieces and nephews including, Robyn Varga, Brian Stowell, Josh and Zak Beauregard, Brady Watt and Matt, Devon and Emily Archetti, great, great niece and nephew, Elizabeth and Jarrod Varga; brother-in-law Raymond D. Stowell Sr. of Lowell, all of whom will remember her wonderful laugh.
She was also the sister of the late Joseph E. Powers, William F. Powers, and Ann M. Stowell.
