LOWELL - Antonio D. Fagundes, age 85, a longtime resident of Lowell died Thursday, April 22, 2021 at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill.
He was born in Terceira, Azores, Portugal on October 6, 1935, and was a son of the late Mateus and Maria Elmira (Da Silva) Fagundes.
Prior to his retirement, Antonio worked for many years in various local factories in the area. Later in life he spent most of his time farming and taking care of the farm animals.
He was a parishioner of St. Anthony Church in Lowell and was a member of the Portuguese American Marching Band for many years.
Antonio enjoyed watching cowboy movies, watching soccer, especially the Portuguese team Sporting, playing cards, and spending time in the company of his family and friends.
He is survived by his son, Arnaldo Fagundes; his daughter, Maria Gorete Sarles; his grandson, Joshua Fagundes; his late brother Mateus F. Silva and his wife Laura; his late sister Maria Kissman and her husband Ron; many newphews and nieces, including Fernando, Manuel, Carlos, Mario, Filomena, Arnaldo, David, and Orlando Silva, along with Laurie Pargas and Michael and Elizabeth Stednitz; his dear friends, Maria Lopes and Jack Lopes-Mendes; and many cousins, including Joe Aguiar,
Ana Bettencourt and Patricia DaRocha.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Antonio's Life Celebration at the MCKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell on Monday, April 26th from 9:00 until 11:00am followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 12 Noon at St. Anthony Church in Lowell. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery in Tewksbury.
