Anthony W. Cronin, a Tewksbury resident and husband of the late Simone C. (Arsenault) Cronin, died on Friday, October 2, 2015 at the Woburn Nursing Center following a period of declining health. He was 80.
Tony was born in Lowell on September 14, 1935, a son of the late William J. and Jenny B. (Greenwood) Cronin. He married Simone on May 13, 1961 and enjoyed over 40 years of marriage prior to her death in 2012.
He graduated from St. Michael School and Keith Academy. Tony was a former communicant of St. Michael Parish, where he was an altar server during his youth. He also served in the Army National Guard for nine years attaining the rank of Sergeant.
Tony worked for Raytheon, Clayton Hosiery, and Metropolitan Insurance prior to moving to Tewksbury to work at John's Fruitland where he was a fixture for more than 20 years, After the store closed in 1985 he was a Produce Manager for Purity Supreme Supermarkets and later Donelan's Supermarkets.
He was an avid skier and enjoyed traveling. Two of his favorite places to visit were Aruba and Lake Winnipesaukee.
Tony was immensely involved with the Boy Scouts. He served as Assistant Scoutmaster in Lowell, Troop 29 and then served as Scoutmaster in Tewksbury, Troop 48 for more than 20 years. Tony was also an active member of St. Dorothy's Parish in Wilmington, MA where he taught CCD and served as a Eucharistic Minister for over 30 years.
Survivors include a son and daughter in law, Jason and Kristen Cronin of Mansfield; two granddaughters, Caroline and Charlotte; two brothers and sisters in law, Frederick and Lorraine Cronin of Chelmsford, Richard and Elaine Cronin of Port Charlotte, FL; a sister and brother in law, Margaret and William Collins of Concord, NH; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother and brother in law of the late William J. and Patricia Cronin.
