DRACUT - Anna M. (Gibson) Vercontaire, age 93, a longtime resident of Dracut died Thursday, May 20, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald E. Vercontaire.
She was born in Lowell on September 6, 1927, and was a daughter of the late Donald and Catherine (Miller) Gibson. She received her education in Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School, class of 1945. She then went on to earn her nursing degree from Lowell General School of Nursing in 1948.
Anna began her career as a registered nurse in private duty nursing. She then went on to work at Lowell General Hospital for 25 years until her retirement. In the latter part of her career, she worked in nursing education.
She was a longtime member of Christ Church United in Dracut.
Anna was an avid reader and her greatest joy came from spending time in the company of her loving family, especially her adoring grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Don Baribeault of Dracut; her daughter-in-law, Ellen Vercontaire of Dracut; four grandchildren, Lynne Daileanes and her husband Bill of Dracut, Steven Vercontaire and his wife Angela of Dracut, Amy Sullivan and her husband Eamonn of Chelmsford, and Alexandra Amato and her husband Salvatore of Dracut; eight great grandchildren, Michael and Maya Daileanes, Christopher, William, and Liliana Vercontaire; Maeve and Cian Sullivan, and Alonzo Amato; a brother-in-law, Jack Gill and his wife Beverly of Hyannis; two sisters-in-law, Joan Gibson of Hudson, NH and Claudette Coughlin of Milford, NH; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late David Vercontaire and John Vercontaire and the sister of the late Margaret Gill, Robert Gibson, and Campbell Gibson.
Anna's family would like to thank Dr. Hayward Zwerling and Dr. Omar Ali and their staff, as well as the Merrimack Valley Hospice, for their care and compassion.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Anna's Life Celebration at the MCKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell on Wednesday from 9:30 until 11:00 am followed by her Funeral Service at the St. Joseph Cemetery Pavilion in Chelmsford at 11:30 am. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donation's may be made in Anna's memory to the Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St, Lawrence, MA 01843.
