Lowell - Anita H. (Lamothe) Poitras, 89, widow of George N. Poitras, a Lowell resident, died Friday July 27, at a local nursing home.
She was born in Lowell on February 27, 1918, a daughter of the late Leon and Amelia (Poitras) Lamothe
During WWII Mrs. Poitras served as a WOW (Women Ordinance Workers) chauffeuring ranking officers to appointments from 1944 to 1945. She was also employed as a stitcher for the former Paris Shoe.
Anita was a communicant of the former St. Louis de France parish in Lowell where she was a member of the Ste. Anne Sodality. She was also a member of Poor Clare and Cercle Jeanne Mance.
Survivors include a daughter and son in law, Mary Ann and Dexter Flood of Newport Center, VT; six grandchildren, Gail McCarthy, Richard McCarthy, Jr. and his wife Christine, John McCarthy, Timothy Yip and his companion Amanda Daveta, Roger Yip, Mary Flood; five great grandchildren, John McCarthy, Jr.,Richard McCarthy, III, Brian McCarthy, Brittany McCarthy, Brandon McCarthy; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Alice Nickles, Leona Jean, Germaine Jean-Grimard, Jeannette Grimard, and Lucille Cailler.
