Andrew "Andy" Azonabor a resident of Abuja, Nigeria and formerly of Dracut, MA passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Saturday, July 22, 2023. He was 74.
He was born in Edo State, Ebelle, Nigeria on January 15, 1949, a son of the late Stephen and Amadin Azonabor.
Andrew emigrated to the United States in pursuit of higher education. He attended the University of North Dakota where he met the love of his life, Karla (Krank) Azonabor. Andrew and Karla settled in Grand Forks, ND to finish their Bachelor degrees, get married and start a family. Karla began student teaching while Andrew worked at Cargill. Moving to East Grand Forks, MN and then on to Duluth, MN. From 1979-1983 they lived in Minneapolis, MN.
In 1983 Andrew, was offered a new job opportunity, as a software engineer, with Digital Equipment Corp., in Massachusetts, and together with three children they moved and settled in Leominster, MA. After three years there, they moved to Dracut. Andrew attended Lesley College in Cambridge, MA where he earned his master's degree. After his employment at Digital, Andrew did contract work as a software engineer consulting for many companies. Combining software engineering and financial planning he moved on to Fidelity, eventually creating his own busi- ness, Intercontinental Investments with an office in Lowell, MA. Andrew officially retired from the IRS, US Dept. of Treasury. In November of 2016, Andrew traveled back to Abuja for a visit and decided to stay longer. While there, he started AKiss Global investments, in 2017.
Andrew was a devout Catholic and served St. Michael Parish as a lector for nearly 30 years. He also volunteered at their soup kitchen. Andrew was a very intelligent man who carried himself with a sense of pride, integrity, loyalty and honor. He had a great sense of wit and humor and was a fantastic cook. Whether it was Nigerian stew, Jollof rice, Fufu or seasoned grilled Salmon, it was delicious. He will especially be remembered for his amazing hamburgers, bbq chicken, ribs and Holiday turkeys and hams. His love of sports, especially soccer, golf, tennis and Sunday Football. In his prime, he could beat you in a two legged race using only one!
Surviving Andrew are his children and spouses, Austin and Joanne Azonabor of Concord, NH, Tesé and Michael Tremblay of Westford, MA, Karissa Azonabor of Westford, MA; six grandchildren, Michael, Blayde, Christian and Savannah Tremblay, Charlotte Azonabor, Lola Azonabor Cabanas; His sister Elizabeth Odalo Emuze, and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to Andrew's Life Celebration at the McKenna-Ouellette Funeral Home, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell from 9:30-10:30 AM on Saturday, November 18, 2023. His Funeral Mass will follow in St. Michael Church, 543 Bridge Street Lowell. Burial in St. Catherine Cemetery Westford.
