OBITUARY
Alice M. Murphy R.N. - "Matriarch of a well known Lowell Family"
LOWELL - Mrs. Alice M. (McOsker)(Dolan) Murphy R.N., 82, a lifelong resident of the Centralville section of Lowell, died Saturday, January 7, 2006 at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center following a brief illness. She was the wife of Daniel E. "Ed" Murphy.
Born in Lowell on March 24, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Charles F. and Rose F. (Geoffroy) McOsker.
Mrs. Murphy was a graduate of St. Michael Parochial School, Lowell High School, Class of 1940, and St. John's Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1944, where she studied to be an R.N. She retired as an R.N. from the former Beaconcrest Chronic Hospital in Lowell.
A lifelong Parishioner of St. Michael Church, she had belonged to the League of Catholic Women, St. Dominic's Club and the Holy Rosary Sodality.
Mrs. Murphy enjoyed knitting and dancing.
In addition to her husband she is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Bob Kerr of Littleton, CO, Ellen and Chuck Stokinger of Dracut, Kathy and Gerry Whitney, Peggy and Jim Kane and Mary and Joe Regan, all of Lowell; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Sharon Dolan, Tom and Kathy Dolan and Jack and Karen Dolan, all of Lowell; her husband's children, Maryjane and Brian Mitchell of Lewisburg, PA, Danny and Gail Murphy Jr. of Westford and Nancy and Jack O'Connell of Worcester and the late Jack and Virginia Murphy; two sisters, Rosemary McOsker of Lowell and
Sr. Charles Francis O.P. (Mary McOsker) of St. Catherine, Kentucky: thirty-one grandchildren, Christina and Eddie Kerr, Andy and Janet Stokinger, Jennifer Tighe and her husband Marty, Allison, Kathleen, Colleen and Jay Dolan, Greg, Carolyn, Lauren and Bobby Whitney, Derek Dolan, Lisa, Eddie, Stephen, Joey and Erin Kane, Katie, Kelly and Jon Dolan, Maureen, Beth and Angela Regan, Patrick and Jeffrey Mitchell, Melissa Lourence and her husband Sam, Claire and James O'Connell and John Murphy; three great grandchildren, Brendan, Elizabeth and Ryan Tighe; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marian (McOsker) Chesmore and her husband Dave of Fresno, CA, Marjie McOsker of Nashua, NH, Mary McOsker of Lowell, John Dolan of Chelmsford, Peggy (Murphy) Lally of Lowell, Alice (Murphy) Warrington of Nashua, NH and John and Helen Murphy of Seattle, WA; several cousins including Sheila Murray and her husband Frank of Lemoine, ME; many nieces and nephews. She leaves dear friends, Kay Raitanen, Olive Leary and Daniel Kinsella.
She was the wife of the late James J. Dolan who died in 1962, dear friend of the late Claire Murphy( Daniel Murphy's deceased wife),sister of the late Sr. Rose Francis O.P. (Rita McOsker), Charles McOsker, Frank McOsker, Therese McOsker and Fred McOsker, grandmother of the late Erin Murphy, sister-in-law of the late Joan McOsker.
