It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of our beloved aunt, Alice E. (Barrett) McKinley, who left us on July 13, 2026, at the age of 83. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by the warmth of the family she loved so dearly.
Born on October 23, 1942 in Lowell, to the late John and Marion Barrett, Alice lived a life defined by joy, vibrant energy, and an unwavering devotion to her friends and family.
To Alice, life was an adventure meant to be shared. She had an undeniable passion for travel, but her absolute favorite destinations were the sun-drenched shores of California and the bright lights of Las Vegas. Whether she was soaking in the golden coast, hitting the casino floor, or ziplining down Fremont Street (at 80!), she brought an infectious enthusiasm that lit up every room (and slot machine) she entered. She loved the thrill of the spin, the excitement of the win, and above all, the laughter shared with loved ones over a glass of chardonnay after a lucky streak.
Alice is survived by her loving nieces Ann Ouellette, Helen Dempsey and husband Barry, Martha Wyman; nephew David Ouellette; grandnieces Mohsani Hoveyda and wife Taylor Pearson, Falicia Lerow and husband Vincent, and Ellianna Ouellette; and grandnephew Tyler Dempsey and wife Lauren; ‘cousin-sister’ Jane Romanowski and husband Bob and family; and a wide circle of lifelong friends who will forever miss her bright smile, her generous spirit, and her legendary sense of fun – including Charley and Marie McKinley; grandchildren Leah Bradley and Hannah Buchanan; long time friends Shirley Murray; Cynthia, Gary and her dear Francesca Micaletti; Marylin and Johnny; and Patrick. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as siblings Mary Barrett, Jane Pare’, Pat Ouellette, John Barrett, Tommy Barrett.
While our hearts are heavy, we comfort ourselves knowing she is likely in the grandest casino of all, holding incredibly lucky winnings and smiling down on us.
Relatives and friends are invited to Alice’s Life Celebration on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 from 9:30 until 11:00 AM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell. Her funeral service will be celebrated immediately following in the funeral home at 11:00 AM. Burial will be held at a later date in Good Shepherd Cemetery, Huntington Beach, California, beside her beloved, late husband, Chuck—reunited at last, forever at peace, and finally home.
