Albert LaChapelle, the beloved husband of Lucille (Demonceau) LaChapelle, died at his Lowell residence on Sunday May 15, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was 84.
Albert was born in Auburn, Maine on December 15, 1931, a son of the late Alfred and Lena Anna (Dufresne) LaChapelle. He resided there prior to moving to Lowell in 1954.
He was a Veteran of the Korean War, having served in the US Army.
Albert was employed at the former Lucent Technologies, University of Massachusetts - Lowell, and Canada Dry, where he was a water treatment engineer for 25 years. He retired in 1994.
He was a communicant of the Parish of St. Rita in Lowell and a member of the Lowell Senior Center.
Albert loved billiards, bowling, basketball and horseshoes. He enjoyed woodworking during his quiet time. Most of all for Albert he cherished his family and looked forward to spending time with them, especially his grandchildren.
Albert relished his fall foliage trips with Lucille through New Hampshire and the Maine Mountains, all the way to Bar Harbor.
His family describes him as welcoming to everyone, and a very devoted and honest person who was creative and had a fun practical joking side.
Surviving him besides Lucille, with whom he would have celebrated 61 years of marriage this coming June are his children and spouses, Raymond LaChapelle of Lowell, Marie and Matthew Stupakewicz of Guilford, ME, Judy and Andrew Straussberg of Merrimack, NH, Jim LaChapelle and his wife Joy Clark of Wilmington; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; a brother Paul LaChapelle of Lewiston, ME; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Marie Theresa LaChapelle, Roger LaChapelle, and brother of the late Roland and Richard LaChapelle.
