Albert J. Hamel

Pelham - Albert J. Hamel, 80, a Pelham, NH resident, died peacefully Saturday April 28, surrounded by his family, at a local nursing home following a brief illness.
He was the husband of Dolores E. (Hebert) Hamel with whom he celebrated their 55th anniversary on February 24.
He was born in Lowell on January 1, 1927, a son of the late Joseph and Adele (Theriault) Hamel.
Mr. Hamel was a WWII veteran having served in the US Navy.
Al was a longtime communicant of Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish and was a member of the Men's Club there. He was formerly a mechanic who co-owned and operated Hamel Bros., Inc. with his brothers for 25 years. Al retired from UMASS Lowell after 11 years in the maintenance dept.
He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, enjoyed visiting Foxwoods Resort, and enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog Simba. He especially looked forward to Sunday night dinners with his family.
Surviving him besides his wife are a son and daughter in law, Ronald and Cheryl Hamel of Dracut; four daughters and sons in law, Donna and Michael Roark of Dracut, Deborah Albis and Larry Kovalcson of Haverhill, Sandra and Charles Mooradian of Nashua, NH, Linda and Donald Lemire of Pelham, with whom he resided; two brothers and sisters in law, Maurice "Bill" and Pauline Hamel of Dracut, Raymond and Beverly Hamel of Pelham, NH; a sister Cecile Gagnon of Dracut; sisters in law and brothers in law, Lauria and Paul Coulliard of Dracut, Claire and Titus Plomaritis, of Pelham, NH, Lucille Hebert of Lowell, Grace Hamel of Dracut; ten grandchildren, Laurie Johnston, Brian Roark, Kristopher Roark, Steven Roark, Stacey Albis, Kerry Perkins, Tricia Albis, Amanda Kovalcson, Larry Kovalcson; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the grandfather of the late Jeff Hamel, and brother of the late Paul Hamel, Theresa McNally, and Estelle Reeves.
