LOWELL- Alan M. Hart, Sr., of Lowell, passed away at his residence, on June, 24, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Al was the beloved husband to Jacqueline 'Jackie' (Turcotte) Hart with whom he would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on November 30, 2017; loving father to Michelle Kender and her husband Jim of Chelmsford, Alan Hart and his wife Erin (McMahon) of Chelmsford, David Hart and his wife Christine (Rousseau) of Westford, Dennis Hart and his wife Robin
(Crooks) of Dover, and Martha Carlson and her husband Paul of Chicago, IL; and adoring Papa to Laura, Elizabeth, Stephen and Nicholas Kender; Conor, Ryan, and Griffin Hart; Olivia, John, and Matthew Hart; Sam, Simon, Sawyer, and Sean Hart; and Carina, Anika, Callum, and Gabrielle Carlson.
Al was raised in the Highlands neighborhood of Lowell, son of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Flanagan) Hart. He attended St. Margaret's elementary school, graduated from Lowell High School in 1957, and attended Wentworth College in Boston. In 1963 he met Jackie, the love of his life, at the Wedeln Ski Club in North Conway, NH. They married that same year and moved to their family home on Christian Hill where they have lived since. Here they raised their family and hosted countless holidays, family birthdays and Sunday dinners for their kids and grand kids. He was a member of St. Michael's Parish.
Al spent the majority of his career working for the United States Air Force on Hanscom Air Force Base where he ultimately achieved the role of Chief of the Small and Disadvantaged Business unit and retired there in 1997. Al was highly regarded and generously shared his time and talents. As an extension of his work on the base, he was a long-standing member of the Board of Directors of AFCEA Lexington-Concord Chapter and most recently served as Director Emeritus.
In addition to his work for the Air Force, Al served 28 years on the Board of Directors at Hanscom Federal Credit Union. On the Board, Al served many volunteer roles including secretary and treasurer of the Board, but he had a special connection to the Condon Scholarship committee, named in honor of his mentor and fellow volunteer, John Condon. He was also Chairman of the Board for the HFCU Charitable Foundation.
With his ever-present cigar, Al was an avid golfer (a daily fixture at the Christian Hill reservoir where he practiced), a voracious reader, and he continued his love of snow skiing by joining his grandchildren on the slopes each winter. He gladly accepted the accusation by his 18 grandchildren that he was still a kid, just like them, and he remains an important and influential role model to each of them. He spent weekends away with Jackie at their home on the coast of Maine, where each summer they hosted their kids and grandkids and created a lifetime of memories. He loved to cook and was never daunted by the task of feeding the whole clan at Sunday dinner.
Along with his wife, children and grandchildren, Al is survived by his brother Joseph Hart and his wife Judy of Boylston, MA, his sister Ann Tevnan of Lowell, cousin Kathie White of Derry, NH, sisters-in-law Joan Hart of Lowell, Collette Abeln of VA, and many nieces and nephews.
Al was the brother of the late Dan Hart, of Lowell and brother-in-law of the late Mike Tevnan of Lowell.
